Mayhew 1959 Journal 16. Feb. 3 Colorado Desert, Riverside Co., Calif. Rice - Desert Center road about 10 miles north of Desert Center, then turned right (east) on a road that looked like it would reach Palm Dry Lake. However, about 1/4 mile from the highway we got the station wagon stuck in a dry wash. The sun went down as we finally dug it out, so we got on high ground and camped for the night. We made camp at 1730, after driving a total of 111 miles. The minimum air temp. tonight is 34 deg F. Not a reptile was seen all day, although we didn't take any special pains to find any. Feb. 4 Colorado Desert, Riverside & Imperial Cos, Calif. We arose at 0730, fixed breakfast, and left the campsite at 0900. We checked some sandy area 8 miles north of our campsite, but the soil was too hard packed for Uima. We drove on through Rice, then turned south toward Midland. Three miles south of Rice we stopped to look over some rather extensive sandy areas. One juvenile Uma scoparia was seen and captured. Few tracks of other Uma were seen, however. We drove then though Midland, and stopped to collect some wild flowers 6 mi. S.E. of Midland. Then we drove through Blythe, turned right
