Colorado Desert, Riverside & Imperial Cs., Calif.
We were in the Deep Canyon area from
approximately 1200 to 14/10. During that
time we saw five phainopepla (all north
of our future research area) - 4 ? and
1 ?, 1 mockingbird, 1 verdin, 2 house
finches, and 1 blue-gray grosbeak.
None of these were seen on the
future refuge, however. One lita steno-
suriona was captured just north of
the gate at the research area
entrance. No other reptiles we seen.

area looks like it is suffering from
the lack of rain this season, although
couple of plants we're seen in bloom.
The entrance to the area is 4.4 miles S.

Ave., and 2.2 miles from the point where

Portola Ave. Our next stop was in
the sand dunes just north of Palm
Desert. This area looks very good for
Uma inornata, etc., but no reptiles or
reptile tracks were seen. Then we drove
down Avenue 40 to highway 60, through
Indio & down highway 99 to the new
