Dec. 13 Glamis area, Imperial Co., Calif.
However, before we left the Glamis area,
we stopped to collect some plants that
were in bloom between the canals. We had
seen Helianthus niveus and Castor
californicus in bloom at our collecting
site in the dunes, but we hadn't
collected any. We found 8 species in
bloom between the canals, most of
which we collected. They were: Pectis
papposa, Palsopia linearis, Abronia
villosa, Oenothera californica, Stillingia
spinulosa, Dalea emoryi, Baileya
pauciradiata, and Mentzelia puberula.
The snow line from today's storm was
about 4000 ft. in the Santa Rosa, San
Jacinto, and Little San Bernardino Mts.
by the time we reached that area.
We stopped at Pine Cove for a few
minutes on the way home. About
an inch of snow had fallen there
during the morning, but the sun
was shining brightly while we were
there. Nevertheless, we recorded an air
temp. (30") of -0.5 C. (31 OF.) in the
sunshine at 1400.
We reached UCR at 1605 after
driving 211 miles today, and 511
miles on the entire trip.
