Dec. 7
Deep Canyon Res. Station, Palm Desert, Riverside Co., Calif.
This morning I took Mr. Sol Lesser,
movie producer and major owner of
Silver Spur Ranch, Mr. Ernest
Alschuler, Vice-President of the
Palm Springs Desert Museum, and Mr.
Adrian Schwillk, manager of Silver Spur
Ranch, up to the entrance of Deep
Canyon to explain what the
University of California has planned
for the area. All of them seemed
to be favorably impressed with our
plans. Mr. Lesser went a
meeting with Mr. Philip Boyd to
discuss what they can do to
assist the University of California
in furthering the University's goals
in that area. I expected to see
work in progress on the fence, but
nothing has been started yet. I
left the Silver Spur manager out at
Silver Spur Ranch, and took Mr. Lesser
and Mr. Alschuler back to Palm
Springs. After eating lunch with
Mr. Alschuler at his home, I drove
west of Palm Springs to get my
monthly soil sample. The soil was
fairly damp several inches beneath the
surface, but not for any distance. No lime
insects were seen, nor were any of
their tracks seen.
