Dale Dry Lake, San Bernardino Co., Calif.
looked for lizards until 1140. The only
lizards seen during that time were 3 young
Urosaurus graciosa in Dalea spinosa in
a week, and 2 Uma scoparia (we caught).
We ate lunch from 1140 to 1205, then
gathered a soil sample from 1220 to 1235.
We again looked for lizards from 1245
to 1335. One young Cnemidophorus tigris
was seen and caught, 1 young Callisaurus
diaconides (very small) was seen, & 1 adult
of Uma scoparia was seen & caught.
These were all the lizards seen today.
There were some tracks in the sand,
indicating some Uma are active yet.
However, the number of active animals
is quite reduced compared to last month.
Surprisingly, no young Uma were seen
this month at this site. Both bird &
mammal tracks (as well as insect) were
rather abundant, indicating that both
diurnal & nocturnal animals had
been active in the area since the
last winds. Therefore, the lack of lizard
tracks could not be due to their
eradication by recent winds. Not more
than a dozen tracks, other than those
made by the animals we caught, were
seen at this site (Uma tracks).
We made a survey of the dominant
plant species in the area today,
