Palm Springs, Riverside Co., Calif.
base of a creosote bush. I stopped
and captured this animal, which was
the only [illegible] I saw in the area. I
drove NW of Palm Springs looking
for potentially better collecting sites.
along highway 111, 3 miles west of Palm
Springs + 3 miles south of Whitewater,
I found some rather extensive accretion
dunes at the base of a hill along
the San Gorgonio River channel. I took
my soil sample (station III) at this
spot. There were a few more lizard
tracks than at the previous site, but
I saw no lizards while I was there.
I was in this area from 1100 to 1200.
I spent most of the rest of the
day driving around that portion of
the Coachella Valley looking for
likely collecting sites for next spring.
I returned to UCR at 1740 after a
trip of 190 miles.
Nov. 13
Dale Dry Lake, San Bernardino Co., Calif.
Tonight at 2020 Frank Aubrey, John
Ellis & I left UCR for this collecting
site. We arrived at 2230 and set up camp.
The minimum temp. tonight was +7°F. The
trip was 115 miles long.
Nov. 14
We arose at 0800 and ate breakfast. We
didn't begin to look for lizards until
1010 because of the low temperatures. We
