Palm Springs, Riverside Co., Calif.
Cnemidophorus tigris at 1330. The last
Uma seen today was at 1255. I
have the feeling that the reptiles in
the area are already in hibernation,
even though the weather is quite
nice for reptiles. I think the
lack of food may possibly be the
explanation for this condition. At
1345 I left the area and talked to
Lloyd Tevis & Dr. J.M. Kolisch at Lloyd's
house until 5 PM. Then Lloyd & I drove
to UCR's desert station to check on
Cal. Tech's mobile lab. I returned to
UCR at 1920 after a trip of 172 miles.
Oct. 23
Dale Dry Lake, San Bernardino Co., Calif.
Tonight at 2110 Frank Aubrey, John
Ellis and I left UCR for this collecting
site. After stopping in 29 Palms for
about 20 minutes, [illegible] we reached our
campsite at 2340. We drove 113 miles
tonight. The minimum temp. tonight was 64°F.
Oct. 24
We arose at 0730 and ate breakfast.
We began looking for lizards at 0825.
Three young Uma scoparia were caught to
feed to a young king snake first. Then
we began collecting in earnest. We
collected until 1215. By this time we
had captured 25 Uma scoparia and 2
Callisaurus draconoides. We gathered a
soil sample from 1230 to 1300, then ate
lunch. The vegetation at this location
