a total of 30 animals, as follows:
Sceloporus graciovus - 4 (2 ad m; 2 ad f)
Sceloporus magister - 13 (6 ad m; 4 im m; 3 im f)
Sceloporus occidentalis - 7 (5 ad m; 2 ad f)
Uta stansburiana - 5 (3 ad m; 2 ad f)
spermotus multicarinatus - 1 (ad )
While in Forejoy Buttes area we talked
to a fellow that had been digging a
well. He claimed he found adult
Veromesser at depths of 60 feet. He
also claimed he found a live frog
(toad?) at 80 feet. We reached UCR
at 1650 after driving 92 miles today
and 300 miles on the entire trip.
all the species found this trip [illegible]
seemed to be considerably spookier
than they have all summer. It
was quite noticeable in several species.
Oct. 11
This morning at 0830 Frank Aubry,
John Ellis and I left UCR for the
Mojave Desert. We reached the
Phelan area at 0925. The weather was
perfect, with just a slight breeze.
Sceloporus occidentalis were rather
numerous. We had expected many of
them to be hibernating by now, but
large numbers are still active. The
first animal seen was an adult
Sceloporus occidentalis. It was seen
at 3400 feet at 0915. We left this
