Mayhew 1959 Journal 98. Sept. 14 Phelan area, San Bernardino Co., Calif. for the night on Beekley Road at the N.W. edge of Phelan at 1830. We drove 208 miles today, after capturing 15 animals of 2 species, as follows: Sceloporus magister - 11 (5 ad ♂; 3 im ♂; 3 im ♀) .. graciosus - 4 (2 ad ♂; 2 ad ♀) Maximum temp. today was 85°F. Minimum temp. tonight was 46°F, We were in bed by 2000. Sept. 15 We arose at 0800, and started looking for lizards at 0900. The weather was rather cool but calm, so we were able to catch several lizards. After looking for lizards in the Phelan area until 1200, we drove south from Llano to try to collect more Sceloporus occidentalis in the foothills. We collected most of them at 4800 ft. At this location we met a fellow that had killed a 3 foot Crotalus viridis about 1030 this morning. He said he saw another one on the road in the same general area yesterday afternoon. We stopped collecting at 1530. Our catch today: Sceloporus magister - 2 (1 ad ♂; 1 im ♂) Sceloporus occidentalis - 7 (5 ad ♂; 2 ad ♀) Uta stansburiana - 5 (3 ad ♂; 2 ad ♀) Xerhondrostus multicarinatus - 1 (ad ) Thus for the 2 day trip we caught
