Mayhew 1959 Journal 97. sept. 14 Lovejoy Butte area, Los Angeles Co., Cal/f. in the store at Phelan said it was the hardest rain she had seen in the five years she had lived there. A fair number of Sceloporus magister were seen, but they were very wary. We stopped for lunch from 1115 to 1145, then we looked for lizards again. The wind began to blow so hard in this area that we decided to drive up to Blue Ridge to try to catch lizards there. about 1300. However, the wind was blowing just as hard there. at 1430, the weather conditions were as follows: air temp. (30") - 13.0 C. " " (1cm) - 19.5 C. soil surface temp. - 27.0 C. rocke surface temps.(in sun) - 30.5 C. wind - N.W., 10-15 mph. a number of newly hatched Sceloporus graciosa (17 of them) were seen in spite of the rather rigorous weather conditions that were present. In addition, 8 adult Sceloporus graciosa, one adult Uta stanshuriana, + 3 adult Sceloporus occidentalis were also seen here at this time. We left Blue Ridge at 1600. We drove along the angeles Crest Highway a way, then drove to Llano & Phelan by way of Big Pines. We stopped
