Sept. 11 Dale Dry Lake area, San Bernardino Co., Calif.
spooky today. Many escaped into holes before we could get near them.
I don't know whether this change in their reactions of the past few months is due to the time of year, or to the completely overcast sky (with occasional sprinkles) and cool soil. At any rate, they were much spookier this trip than ever before. After eating lunch, we drove to the end of the pavement leading to Rice (started at 1130). We collected several animals along the side of the road. We reached the end of the road at 1515. We had a long way to go to get back to UCR, so decided not to try to collect any animals on the return trip. Thus, our catch today:
Uma scoparia - 10 (4 ad Ø; 5 ad ♀; 1 imm Ø)
Urosaurus graciosa - 1 (ad Ø)
Callisaurus draconoides - 4 (3 ad Ø; 1 ad ♀)
Crotaphytus wislizeni - 1 (ad ♀)
Phrynosoma platyrhinos - 1 (ad Ø)
Cnemidophorus tigris - 2 (1 ad Ø; 1 ad ♀)
Uta stansburiana - 8 (6 ad Ø; 2 ad ♀)
Maximum temp. today was 100° F.
We returned to UCR at 1830 after a 164 mile drive today (614 miles for the entire trip).
