92.
Sept. 9 Glamis area, Imperial Co., Cal'f.
On the drive down an adult
Phrynosoma (sp?) ran across highway
99 in front of our car about 5 mi.
w. of Westmoreland. This occurred
at 1510 when the air temp (30") was
38.8°C, and the soil + road temps.
were 55.0°C. We stopped the car, but
could find no trace of the animal
by that time. We reached the
Crackella Canal near the Algodones
Dunes at 1630. We began looking for
lizards at 1650. A large number
of recently hatched lizards were seen:
Crotaphytus wislizeni - 1
Uma notata - 25
There were also a large number of
adult animals active at this time
of the evening. We captured the
following before dark:
Uma notata - 13 (3ad ♂; 6ad ♀; 2imm ♂; 2imm ♀)
Callisaurus draconoides - 1 (ad ♀)
We stopped looking for diurnal
lizards at 1830 (sunset at 1755).
We began night collecting along
the road at 1900. However, night
collective wasn't so good. We caught:
Colubyx variegatus - 2 (ad ♂)
Uma notata - 1 (ad ♂)
We saw 3 newly hatched Crotalus
cerastes between 1920 & 1930 within
