Palms Springs, Riverside Co., Calif.
Frankie Aubrey & I left UCR at 0503,
and arrived in Palm Springs at 0610.
We began looking for lizards at
0615, (David Ruther went with us) &
stopped walking looking for
lizards at 1035. We drove along
some of the roads looking until
1200. After lunch we began looking
again at 1545. Few animals were
seen, however. We parked at the corner
of Travis Way and Country Club Drive
(formerly avenue 40) in Rancho Mirage
at 1700. One Uma inornata was
seen at 1720, but no other animals
were seen before we quit looking
at 1730. A few recently hatched
animals were seen today:
Uma inornata - 3
Diposaaurus dorsalis - 2
Cnemidophorus tigris - 1
During the day we captured a total
of 39 animals of 6 species.
The animals caught were:
Diposaaurus dorsalis - 6 (2ad ♂; 3ad ♀; 1im?)
Uma inornata - 25 (7ad ♂; 5ad ♀; 6im ♂ or 7im ♀)
Urosaurus graciosa - 3 (ad ♂)
Callisaurus draconoides - 2 (1ad ♂; 1im. ♂)
Cnemidophorus tigris - 2 (ad ♂ & ad ♀)
Crotalus cerastes - 1(ad ♂)
We returned to UCR at 1915 after a trip of
153 miles.
