Aug. 26 Wrightwood area, Los Angeles Co., Calif.
We reached Wrightwood at 1500, and
found some Sceloporus occidentalis
a few moments later. We drove west
on state highway 2 to Big Pines
Recreation area, then turned left and
drove up to Blue Ridge. We caught both
Sceloporus occidentalis and Sceloporus
gracilisus there. We stayed in the
area (8300 ft.) until sundown to see
how late any of the lizards stayed
out. Only Sceloporus gracilous were
seen at this elevation (the last
Sceloporus occidentalis we saw was
at 7700 ft.). The last lizard was seen
at 1825. Sunset at that location
occurred at 1827. The air temp (30°)
at this time was 13.0°C. We caught
43 lizards today, as follows:
Sceloporus occidentalis - 27 (17 ad ♂; 8 ad ♀; 1 im ♂; 1 im ♀)
Sceloporus magister - 3 (1 im ♂; 2 im ♀)
Sceloporus gracilous - 10 (7 ad ♂; 3 ad ♀)
Uta stansburiana - 3 (2 ad ♂; 1 ad ♀)
Thus, we caught 65 animals during our
trip, as follows:
(Max. temp. today - 90° F.)
Sceloporus occidentalis - 27 (17 ad ♂; 8 ad ♀; 1 im ♂; 1 im ♀)
Sceloporus magister - 22 (6 ad ♂; 3 ad ♀; 8 im ♂; 5 im ♀)
Sceloporus gracilous - 10 (7 ad ♂; 3 ad ♀)
Uta stansburiana - 5 (3 ad ♂; 2 ad ♀)
Crotaphytus wielgensi - 1 (im ♀)
We drove 122 miles today, 283 miles on the trip.
We reached UCR at 2020 tonight.
