Mayhew 1959 July 22 Journal 77. 22 mi. E. of 29 Palms, San Bernardino Co., Calif. miles, so we decided to leave this area and go where we had seen insulated (grounded) electric poles about 5 miles nearer 29 Palms. We tried to sleep in the front seat of the station wagon until 0400. By then the storm had moved out of our area. We returned to our original campsite to finish the night. Frank set up a cot again, but I lay down on the front seat of the station wagon. Only a very small amount of rain had fallen in this area as the storm passed through. We slept until 0515. At 0600 the weather conditions were: air temp. (30") - 29.0°C. .. .. (1cm) - 29.4°C. soil surface temp - 30.0°C. relative humidity - 50%. wind - 5-7 mph from S.W. We looked for animals from then until 0900, when we started toward UCR. However, we drove slowly along the road toward 29 Palms and stopped frequently to look for animals. We reached Old Dale at 1100 at which time we stopped looking for animals. By this time this morning, we had captured 36 animals of 4 species, as follows:
