July 21
22 mi. E. of 29 Palms, San Bernardino Co., Calif.
We reached Dale Dry Lake at about
1630. They are beginning to black-top
the road from Dale Dry Lake almost
to Rice, so we drove over a portion
of this road to see if it is going
to go through some good collecting
areas. We caught a couple of
Callisaurus draconoides and 1 Uma
scoparia in the short distance we
drove over the road. Then we returned
to collection station IV and began
to look for Uma scoparia. We
caught a total of 12 of them before
sundown, as well as 1 Crotaphytus
wisligeni (ad ?). Then we gathered our
soil sample before it grew dark. No
night collecting was attempted, so we
caught a total of 15 animals at this
location this afternoon, as follows:
Callisaurus draconoides - 2 (ad ?)
Crotaphytus wisligeni - 1 (ad ?)
Uma scoparia - 12 (3ad ?, 2ad ?, 3im ?,
2im ?, 2im ?)
The minimum temp. tonight was 84°F.
Clouds were fairly thick around us
when we went to bed at 2130.
