This makes a total of 24 animals caught at this site this trip, and 54 caught so far this trip.
To give an idea of the temperatures experienced so far on this trip, at 0645 the water temp. in an almost full 10 gallon water can was 32.5°C. (91°F.). We spent considerable time late in the morning looking for animals in excellent creosote bush scrub between the East Highline Canal and the Cochella Canal. However, all we saw were 3 Callisaurus draconides. We expected to find Dipsoaurus dorsalis in abundance, but failed to see any.
At this time the soil surface in the open was 49.0°C., while the soil surface temp. in the shade of a creosote bush was 39.0°C. The relative humidity was 36%. The sky was about 90% overcast (thin in spots). The air temp. (30") was 37.0°C. and at 1cm. it was 38.5°C. The wind was blowing 8-12 mph. from the S.E.
We left this area at 1145 and drove up the eastern side of Salton Sea, through Joshua Tree Nat'l. Monument to Dale Dry Lake.
