Mayhew 1959 Journal 65. June 12 1000 Palms area, Riverside Co., Calif. trips of our entire operation. The percentage of the animals that escape our nooses has declined considerably over the past few months. We returned to UCR at 1215 after driving 57 miles today and 550 miles on the trip, We decided to count the roadside signs and billboards that are cluttering the desert highways. We didn't count them everywhere we went, but these are the results: Between 29 Palms turn-off and Palm Springs turnoff (on N. side of road only) - 50 signs. 29 Palms turn-off & Calezon (N. only) - 147 signs. " " & Banning " - 225 " " " & Beaumont " - 278 " " " & Riverside (UCP) " - 394 " " " & Banning (S. only) - 130 " June 19 Coachella Valley, Riverside Co., Calif. I left UCR at 0630 for the Deep Canyon Research Station, stopping at Rancho Mirage for Lloyd Tevis. As I was driving to Rancho Mirage I decided to go by way of the old highway from Garnet to 1000 Palms to see if I could find any Phrynosoma. I found 3 Phrynosoma ornalli and 2 Phrynosoma platyphiro on that 10 mile stretch of road between 0745 and 0815, after meeting Lloyd, we drove to the station. We located the spots along the road we felt should be graded!
