May 29
Box Springs Mts., Riverside Co., Calif.
On our return to UCR, we drove
up Pigeon Pass Road to reach the top
of these mountains. Wind was blowing
here, also, but not very strongly (5-7 mph).
Sceloporus orcutti and Sceloporus
occidentalis were seen on many
rocks, sitting in the sunshine. We
were able to catch a total of 12 animals
in this section (6 on Pigeon Pass Road,
and 6 at the top of the mountains).
Those animals caught were:
Uta stansburiana - 1 (ad. ♀)
Sceloporus orcutti - 6 (3 ad. ♂, 3 ad. ♀)
Sceloporus occidentalis - 5 (4 ad. ♂, 1 ad. ♀)
Thus, 3+ animals of 6 species were
captured today. We returned to UCR
at 1540, after a trip of 129 miles.

Mojave Desert, San Bernardino Co., Calif.
Today at 1310 Frank Aubrey & I left
UCR on our monthly collecting trip. We
stopped east of Yucca Valley to try to
find Sceloporus magister. Very few were
seen during the afternoon, but we
finally caught 3 (2 ♂ / ♀). Then we
drove through 29 Palms and parked along
the road until it was dark enough to
begin night collecting. We began night
collecting at 1900 and stopped looking
at 2045. Two Crotalus cerastes were
seen on the road 11 mi. east of
