May 26 UCR campus, Riverside Co., Calif.
Aubrey & I collected on the walking
climb in Tule Arroyo south of Truck-
haven on Feb. 2, 1959 (see page 14 of 1959 journal).
Charles Papp of the CES Entomology Dept.
identified them. They are members of the
family Tenebrionidae. The name is
Eusattus productus LeConte. His only
specimen came from Sonora, Mexico. The
life history of this beetle is not
known. He would like to have additional
specimens if we obtain any.
May 29 1000 Palms area (5 mi. N.W.), Riverside Co., Calif.
This morning at 0630, Frank Aubrey
& I left UCR for collecting station
III. We arrived at the site at 0740.
The wind was blowing between 13 & 23
mph., with gusts to 29 mph. out of the
northwest. However, we gathered our
soil samples and began looking for
lizards at 0820. Nevertheless, none
were caught until 0850. The wind
gradually eased a bit, but never
stopped blowing. By the time we quit
looking at 1145, we had captured the
following:
Uma ignota: 19 (6 ad. ?, 6 ad. ?, 4 imm. ?, 3 imm. ?)
Dipsosaurus dorsalis: 2 (2 half-grown; sex ?)
We caught a Callisaurus draconoides along
the old highway on our way home, bringing
our total catch for the morning to 22 animals.
