dorsalis and a young Phyllorhynchus
decurtatus along the old highway west
of 1000 Palms, and saw one Crotalus
cerastes as well. We quit looking
at 2200. The minimum temperature
tonight was 58° F.

5 mi. N.W. of 1000 Palms, Riverside Co., Calif.
We arose at 0730 after being buffeted
by the wind all night. The wind was
still blowing between 19 to 28 mph. with
gusto above 35 mph. when we arose. We
began looking for animals on Grand-
daddy Dune at 0830, but quit at 0930
because of the wind. During this time,
however 1 young Uma inornata was captured
and 3 others (2 adults) were seen. They
were entirely too "spooky" to noose, however.
We saw one Crotalus cerastes at the
entrance to a burrow in the side of
one of the creosote bush clumps. We
left the area at 0940, and arrived at
UCR at 1045. During the trip we drove
total of 573 miles and caught total
of 83 animals of 11 species (25 animals
near 29 Palms, 43 near Elamios, 7 near
the all-American canal, and 7 near 1000
Palms.
