Mayhew 1959 Journal 58. May 23 1000 Palms area, Riverside Co., Calif. dorsalis and a young Phyllorhynchus decurtatus along the old highway west of 1000 Palms, and saw one Crotalus cerastes as well. We quit looking at 2200. The minimum temperature tonight was 58° F. May 24 5 mi. N.W. of 1000 Palms, Riverside Co., Calif. We arose at 0730 after being buffeted by the wind all night. The wind was still blowing between 19 to 28 mph. with gusto above 35 mph. when we arose. We began looking for animals on Grand- daddy Dune at 0830, but quit at 0930 because of the wind. During this time, however 1 young Uma inornata was captured and 3 others (2 adults) were seen. They were entirely too "spooky" to noose, however. We saw one Crotalus cerastes at the entrance to a burrow in the side of one of the creosote bush clumps. We left the area at 0940, and arrived at UCR at 1045. During the trip we drove total of 573 miles and caught total of 83 animals of 11 species (25 animals near 29 Palms, 43 near Elamios, 7 near the all-American canal, and 7 near 1000 Palms.
