Mayhew 1959 Journal 55. May 21 Dale Dry Lake area, San Bernardino Co., Calif. This evening at 1845 Bert Otzinger and I left TCR for this area. We reached 29 Palms at 2025, then began night collecting from there to Dale Dry Lake. One ♀ Coleonyx variegatus was all we saw that we collected. We saw 2 Crotalus cerastes on the road, but didn't collect them. Then we drove past the chemical works on Dale D.L. to the 29 Palm- Amboy Road, and up through the pass in the Sheep Hole Mts. I returned to our campsite at Dale D.L. Nothing was seen on the road during this time. We stopped looking for animals at 2300, after a total drive of 126 miles tonight. The minimum temp. tonight was 54°F. May 22 We arose at 0645 and ate breakfast. I collected my soil samples from 0730 to 0800 while Bert looked for lizards. We looked for lizards until 1215, during which time we caught the following: Uma scoparia - 21♂ (8ad. ♂; 4ad. ♀, 4im. ♂, 5im. ♀) Callisaurus draconoides - 3 (1ad. ♂, 2 im. ♀) Diposaurus dorsalis - 1 (ad. ♀) Thus, we caught 25 animals of 3 species today and 1 animal of 1 species last night in this area. We left this collecting site and drove through Joshua Tree National Monument, Box Canyon, Mecca, along the west side of the Salton Sea to the Yuma Dunes, arriving there at 1745 (Algodones Dunes).
