Mayhew 1959 Journal 53. May 17 Barton Flats area, San Bernardino Co., Calif. We arose at 0700 and checked our traps. Four Peromyscus sp. were caught in the 16 traps, for an average of 25%. After breakfast we collected reptiles in the stream bottom and looked at birds + mammals. Animals caught were: Sceloporus occidentalis - 6 Sceloporus graciosus- 13 - 1 Animals seen were: (Total caught- 20) Black-headed grosbeak Song sparrow Western tanager Stellar's jay Green-tailed towhee Sparrow hawk Wilson's warbler Mt. chickadee Red-breasted sapsucker Purple finch Enianias sp. We stopped looking at 1030 and drove to the San Gorgonio Wilderness area, arriving at 1106. We collected 12 Sceloporus graciosus on or near Poop-out Hill, then walked up the trail a couple of miles to the large meadow. Almost no snow is on San Gorgonio this year - none below about 10,000 ft., and then only in patches clear to the top. The willows have not leafed out yet. Only 2 or 3 species of wildflowers were seen. The animals seen during this stop were: Brown creeper Fox sparrow
