Barn Owl Mayhew 1950 April 20 Davis campus, Univ. of Calif., Yolo Co., Calif. An adult was seen sitting on the top of a drain pipe just under the eaves of Animal Science Building. The pipe is half way along the south wall of the north wing of the building. I first saw the bird yesterday, + removed the pellets at the base of the pipe. Today one pellet was found with 1 skull + several bones of a pocket gopher (Thomomys bottae). April 21 Today I collected 3 pellets from this owl. The contents were: #1 4 mandibles (mus) 2 innominates 3 ulnas 2 scapulae 4 tibia-fibulae 1 humerus 6 bones of young pocket gopher (Thomomys) #2 2 skulls (Thomomys) 3 mandibles 3 scapulae 3 innominates 4 femurs 4 ulnas 4 tibia-fibulae 3 humeri 1 atlas 22 ribs These 2 pellets were collected at 8:30 A.M. #3 1 skull (Thomomys) 2 mandibles 2 humeri 2 tibias 2 femurs 2 ulnas 1 atlas 1 cervical vertebra 2 innominates 2 radii 2 scapulae This one collected at 2:15 P.M.
