Mockingbird
1.
Crows Landing Highway, 9 miles south of Modesto, Stanislaus Co., Calif.
at 11:35 A.M. one individual lit on a fence
post about 30' from the house. It fobbed its
tail twice after alighting, then remained still,
except to move its head occasionally. After
six minutes on the post, it flew away.
at 11:43 A.M. the bird appeared again, flying
down to the ground, grabbing an insect in its
bill, and flying into a rose bush & devour it.
It gulped several times before completely
swallowing the insect. Then it wiped its bill
several times on the branch of the rose-bush on
which it was standing.
