Killdeer Mayhew 1950 May 13 Conaway Ranch, 2 mi. east of Woodland, Yolo Co., Calif. one - the one found May 7th had the yellow remains of broken eggs showing on the rocks around the nest. None of the eegs were left. May 16 The nest with 1 egg May 13 now has 2 eggs. (This is nest #5.) May 20 This nest now has a full complement of 5) 4 eggs. The ? was at the nest when I arrived. 6) About 100 yards north of #5 I found a nest between the tire tracks with 1 egg in it. As there is very little chance of the ? succeeding in bringing off a brood in such a spot, I made a nest as nearly like it as I could at the east side of the road, just 6 feet from the present nest, + placed the egg in my nest, leaving the other nest intact. As soon as I left, the ? returned to the old nest of hers + stood beside it for the 10 minutes I watched her with binoculars from the car. May30 A nest with 4 eggs in it was found on 7) the south bank of the main drainage ditch about 1 1/2 miles east of the pipeline bridge.
