Mayhew 1947 Mar. 1 Allen's Hummingbird 1. Strawberry Canyon, U.C. campus, Alameda Co., Calif. At 1:35 P.M. one individual was seen feeding from the flowers of an unknown bush. He lit on another bush with his back toward us so that the green back, reddish-brown tail + reddish-brown chute patches were easily seen. Mar. 8 Strawberry Canyon, U.C. campus, at 9:25 A.M. one or was seen preforming his nuptial dive. He rose straight up in the air for about 50', then went into a fairly steep dive. At the bottom of the dive a whirring sound was heard, quite different from the noise made by the Anna's Hummer. at 10:10 A.M. one individual was seen hanging on the bottom of a limb like a chickadee.
