Lake Merritt, Oakland, Alameda Co., Calif.
At 10:15 A.M. one individual was seen very close
to shore. He dove forward and went under water,
returning to the surface 25 seconds later about
10 feet from when it went under. At 10:19 A.M.
he dove again, coming up about 30' away 25 seconds
later.
At 10:35 A.M. one individual of this species was
seen resting on the water. He had his neck
pulled back swan-style, with the bill
resting on the front of the neck. The head
remained facing forward.
