Ring-necked Duck
Wildcat canyon, Contra Costa Co, Calif.
At 10:30 A.M. a ♀ was seen swimming in Jewel
Lake. It was dark brown on the back, darker
head + neck, a light eye ring, a light patch
at the base of the bill, + a ring of some light
color near the tip of the bill. It swam with
practically no effort, but moved through the
water at a rather fast rate. It swam
back and forth along the edge of the lake
near the cat-tails, then went to the middle
of the lake.
