Mayhew 1948 Plant Catalogue 2. May 8 9 mi. south of Modesto, Stanislaus Co., Calif. 6. Hordeum murinum L. (Foxtail) Grass that branches from the ground; large bushy heads; about 10-12" high. Altitude 100 ft.; found growing at the edges of cultivated fields in waste areas. May 9 1433 Spruce St. Berkeley, Alameda Co., Calif. 7. Medicago hispida Gaertn. (Bur Clover) Herb with nearly glabrous foliage; prominent spiny pods; flowers minute, yellow; leaves divided into 3 lobes. Altitude about 100 ft.; found growing on some uncultivated ground in back of the house, along with several species of Graminae. Strawberry Canyon, U.C. campus, Alameda Co., Calif. May 12 8. Montia perfoliata (Donn) Howell (Miner's Lettuce) Herb 6 to 18 inches high; corolla white; herbage glabrous; clammy; found in moist soil in the shade of Quercus agrifolia on a north-facing slope; altitude 200 feet; growing with Plantago, Medicago, several species of Umbelliferae and Graminae, Stellaria. 9. Medicago arabica All. (Spotted Medick) Found in the shade of Quercus agrifolia on a north-facing slope, in damp soil; plants were from 4 to 15 inches high; corolla yellow; herbage slightly hairy; altitude 200 feet; found growing with Montia, Plantago, several species of Umbelliferae and Graminae, Stellaria. 10.
