on the nest until I was within 3 feet of
the nest. I don't think I would have
even seen the nest if she had remained
on it. Two of the eggs were taken for
the museum collection, & on blowing them,
it was found that incubation had begun,
but had not been going on very long.
Humidity & temperature readings were taken
at the nest, but the hen had been off the
nest approximately 1 hour before I got
the instruments to the nest. Since the
nest had little down to maintain humidity
& temp., the readings naturally were very
close to readings taken on the ground
nearby. However, the readings were:
Relative humidity - 45%
Temperature - 21°C.
Readings taken waist high:
R.H. - 52%.
Temp. - 18°C.
I think the reason the R.H. was higher in
the air was that the same amount of
moisture was present from the ground
up, but since the air temp. was lower,
this would make the relative humidity
higher at waist height.
