June 15 Conaway Ranch, 2 mi. east of Woodland, Yolo Co., Calif. boundary. They did not fly when we stopped,
but slowly swam east along a row of
tules growing in the middle of the ditch.
In about 3 minutes they flew past us
toward the west & settled in a clump
of tule.
July 13 A pair were seen swimming in the drainage ditch that forms the south boundary of the ranch about 1/2 mile east of the Poleline Bridge over road 102. There was no sign of young birds with them or in the area near-by.
