nest so far this afternoon, they have flown directly to the west edge of the nest without stopping anywhere along the way. at 4:01 P.M. the ♀ returned with some food, which she seemed to share with all the youngsters this time, then she settled on the nest as before. The ♂ is now out of sight. At 4:04 P.M. the ♀ left the nest & flew north out of sight, at 4:11 P.M. the ♀ arrived at the nest from a north-westerly direction, uttering two low notes when she was about 50 feet from the nest. She fed one youngster, then picked something up in her bill from the edge of the nest & flew back toward the north-west, at 4:14 P.M. she returned from the south-west, fed one youngster & flew off to the north. Each time, after she puts food in a youngster's mouth, she gives a swallowing action as though she is swallowing whatever she didn't give the young. At 4:19 P.M. the ♂ flew to a branch about 3 feet from the nest, then went to the nest & fed one youngster. He remained motionless on the edge of the nest a moment, then flew down to the grass about 20 feet from the nest. at 4:21 P.M. the ♀ returned from the west. She fed two youngsters, then settled down on the nest as she had before. While she was feeding the young, a ? Alkali Hummingbird
