Mar. 1
Black Phoebe
Strawberry Canyon, U.C. campus, Alameda Co., Calif.
Two individuals of this species were seen
about 10:45 A.M. on fence posts in back of the
experimental dairy barns. They were feeding in
the air, occasionally lighting on electric
wires nearby. When sitting, they bob their tails
rather frequently. They would also alight on
low, solitary weed stalks, from which they
would sally forth after insects.

June 11
Pierce Ranch, 4 miles west of Davis, Yolo Co., Calif.
Tonight Keith Severin caught a female on
her nest for me to band. The nest is
built on top of a pipe just under
the eaves of a house. He was able
to catch her with his hands while
she was sitting on the nest, even
without the use of a flashlight. When
he replaced her on the nest after
banding, he shone a flashlight in her
eyes & slowly backed away. She didn't
flinch from the nest after the light
was turned off.
