Pheasant 19. Mayhew 1950 July 1 (7) Conaway Ranch, 2 mi. east of Woodland, Yolo Co., Calif. a ♀ with 1 youngster about ½ grown was seen today along a ditch bank. July 11 (8) a ♀ and 1 youngster better than ½ the size of the ♀ was flushed from a ditch bank. (9) a ♂, ♀ + 1 youngster about 4 weeks old were flushed from the side of the road. July 12 This morning, from 7 to 9 A.M., Lee Baldock, Paul Tillman & I made a road census of broods. The area covered was from the main canal west to the west boundary of the ranch and from the road beside new headquarters south to old headquarters. The total birds seen was 161. Of this number, 4 were ♂, 22 were ♀ + 135 were young. Nearly all the young were approximately ½ grown.
