Mayhew 1949 Pheasant June 23 Conaway Ranch, 2 miles east of Woodland, Yolo Co., Cal.f. but was actually in the barley. The nest was undamaged by either harvester. June 25 [5] all 9 eggs were still in the nest, but the ♀ failed to return. Embryos about 1/3 through development. June 26 [6] This nest had been run over by one of the trucks that collect the grain from the harvester. All eggs were broken. July 9 [6] a ♀ and 8 half-grown young flew up from a levee between rice checks & moved to some fallow ground about 100 yards north. This was in the NW corner of section 19. July 12 [7] a ♀ + 7 young large enough to fly were flushed from the weeds at the top of a ditch bank in the south west portion of section 20. July 19 [8] a ♀ + 4 young about the size of the mother flushed from the north bank of the main drainage ditch this morning. [9] 4 youngsters about 1/2 the size of a ♀ flushed from the weeds along the road just north of the reservoir. July 21 [10] Two ♀ + 1 youngster big enough to fly were flushed from a ditch bank east of the main canal. I could scare out no other young. [7] a ♀ was flushed from a nest on the north bank of the main drainage ditch
