Area #1 Aug. 17, 1957 Area #1 largely in cattle ranches, Scene along Niobrara River which is small (say 15' across) clear stream generally north of Scottsbluff. If State could acquire suitable segment of Niobrara River possibly east of Falls (far miles west of falls, including falls (which I did not)) that would seem desirable project. Chet Brown also feels that State should acquire suitable areas in Sandhills region, also, even though the Valentine Nat. Wildlife Refuge, in separated segments includes many of the lakes & marshes. Within the Refuge, however cattle ranching appears to go on the same as outside. Nat. Fort Niobrara Wildlife Refuge appears to include the principal falls on the River.
