Aug 10 To BCD village site on south rim of Canyon, with Bill Belenap and his nephew in Dodge Power Dragbn. Last several miles of road recently built-dug out by Indian Service for Reclamation. One of suggested village sites is on mesa above dam site with spectacular canyon views in both directions. Believe that a town here might grow indefinitely because of mild/summer climate, ? resort attractions, accessibility to highway & railroad, & sport activities. Thom's rim, the difference between the river above Lake Mead and the upper end of the Lake is apparent, although not great. The lake looks still, muddy somewhat under the river and somewhat lacking in interest. The river has visible rapids which we could plainly hear and visible current. It undergo a narrowing and seems "alive." At Quartermaster Canyon, which we reached about sunset (perhaps 20 miles below Bridg Canyon) the reservoir is quite disappointing as seen from the rim.
