466 Thompson Bogachiel Guard Station to Hyacks & Return April 26, 1934 meager bird life at this time of year. En route back to camp we met a young fellow with 2 cougar hounds & girl who is hunting for cougar & bobcat. He reports having killed two cougars this month along the Bogachiel. The Forks Isaac Walton League pay a $15. bounty on cougar. They report enough money left in the treasury for 2 more bounties. April 27, 1934 Returned to Forks. April 28, 1934 Today we drove to Clearwater and a few miles up the new CCC-built road. The vegetation is the same as before. We interviewed a Mr. Crippin & his wife who have lived at Clearwater since 1901. They reported that elk inhabit the forest all around Clearwater, par- ticularly during fall & rutting season. They hear the bulls bugle. Mrs. Crippin said she saw a large band of shy/elk a few miles above town about 5 years ago (some 200 she estimated). They both say that several miles (perhaps 15) up the
