Tompson Mount Olympus 460 April 23, 1934. This afternoon I attended a meeting in Forks of Izock Walonians, local game protectors, foresters, one member of the state game commission. Resolutions were proposed by the I.W. league local chapter and unanimously passed. As near as I can recall, they expressed the sentiment of the community, it were in the main as follows: 1. Bounty system should be restored on cougars & other predators. Note: there was no faith ifr the govt. hunters. Everyone keeps a pack of trained cougar hounds. They like cougar hunting but also want the bounty to help defray expense of hounds. Approx. 32-34 cougars supposedly killed on the peninsula each year. Black bears should be killed as predators. 2. The Olympic Natl. Monument should not be any larger than at present. Note: this also expresses sentiment generally. The monument is not favored by these people here. 3. Various lengthy proposals to produce better steelhead fishing fly, larger rearing ponds & more transplants. 4. Best game management books should be brought by county & taught in public schools.
