Tompson Big Bend Rio Grande April 7-8, 1934. He drove down by way of the eastern-most road to Boquillo and returned by the one which passes just east of the Chisos mts. On the 8th Steger & I hiked over to the mouth of the Chisos. Boquillo's canyon, part way up on the north side mts. & back'd to Boquillo's by the river. Birds seen: reported: Blue Heron (Ardea herodias) American Merganser (Mergus merganser, americanus) a couple on river. 3. Turkey Vulture (Cathartes aura septentrionalis) common. 4. Black Vulture? (Coragyps atratus) two. 5. Red-tailed Hawk (Buteo borealis) few. 6. Golden Eagle (Aquila chrysaetos canadensis) several. 7. Marsh Hawk (Circus hudsonius) common. 8. Sparrow Hawk (Falco sparverius) common. 9. Prairie Falcon (Falco mexicanus) one 10. Ariz.Scaled Quail (Callipepla squamata pallida) abundant in desert. 11. Merri's Quail (Ayrtox montezuma meameri) reported, a few still up in Chisos. 12. Spotted Sandpiper (Actitis macularia) few seen along river- 13. Killdeer (Charadrius vociferus) few along river and near springs- 14. Western Meadow Lark (Sturnella magna marginalis) common
