448. Tompson Bandelier March 28, 1934. Bighorns may have been once present. None have been heard of within the region in many years. There is not sufficient territory within the monument to attempt re-introducing them at this time. Fry told us upon our return that the heavily over-grazed portion of the monument lay south of Alamos canyon where we were unable to go. The mesa top is dotted with mounds and chipping, & potter sherds. Evansstead is interested in wild life and is going to try to get a survey made within the monument if he can get a trained person to do it. There seems to be no particular game management plan to institute there at present, other than to fence & patrol the area & give adequate protection As the situation becomes better known, some cooperative steps with the Forest Service & game department may be worked out for a larger game production scheme.
