Thompson Boulderier March 28, 1934 and an excellent ground cover of grama grass somewhat utilized by other cattle & horses, and an abundance of mountain Muhlenbergia - a tall very coarse bunch grass of little forage value. Cattle & horse tracks are common in the forest and the browse shows heavy grazing a few years ago. Much of it still looks stubby although there has been a marked recovery. Fencing it seems desirable to me. Up along Alamo canyon & across to Friggles, perhaps 2 miles west of the telephone line, there is a solid mat of Ponderosa Pine reproduction ranging in height from 3' to 15'. Deer (Odocoileus Hemionus macrotis) tracks are numerous throughout the forest. I jumped 3 deer in a bunch about half way to Alamo. One turkey feather was also picked up. It was fresh & clean, indicating recent passage of turkeys through the forest. This was along phone line. A duck hawk was nesting in a hole well up in the south cliff of Alamo canyon. One of the birds flew up & down the canyon calling repeatedly.
