Thompson 438 Sowata March 12, 1934 Today the ride took me from head of the Hail Trail to Saddle, Indian Hollow & Rice Hollow. The range shows heavy current utilization. Particularly near the water hole in Rice Hollow, Cliffrose is utterly stripped. In the areas of forest utilization, Russian Thistle covers the ground. This is its first appearance on the range, as far as I have noticed, but it indicates what can take place if further range abuse occurs. In summary: it is my opinion that game must be reduced further; that a reduction of domestic stock would be desirable if it can be affected; that the range is being held in an unproductive state. March 13-14, 1934 enroute to South Rim Grand Canyon. March 15th wrote Rival report and answered accumulated mail.
