Tompson South Canyon Mar.2. Feb.30/1934 The range covered today is densely covered with juniper, pines, Cowania, Pinusia, yucca glauca?, and in spots sagelmutb & clupothamne. The canyon are filled with gambel oaks. Cowania and Pinushia are almost entirely recovered. The region has been closed to domestic stock for 8 years. We saw a few horses however, +a few cow tracks. The rang south of Saddle Canyon is the best and it follows that it was hard hit when deer were most abundant. Deer tracks were numerous everywhere. Our census of 60 deer for the day must be a very small percentage of the deer actually present. Barque plants, however, showed no sign of browsing. This east side range, particularly the South Canyon area is certainly not stocked with deer to capacity. I believe that the range is supporting only a small percentage of the deer which it is capable of supporting.
