Thompson
Tater Canyon Region
429.
Feb. 28, 1934
One jack-rabbit
One cotton tail
seen today. Murray saw a bobcat's tracks.
Tracks of [illegible] coyotes seen by Hamilton.
Billy Crosby, resident here, interjects that
cats are more abundant around South Canyon. He also says coyotes seem to
traf[illegible] in a definite route through the valley, through the hills, & circle back into the valley, taking several days for the circuit.
The range inspected today at the head of and around Tater Canyon has more Cowania than I've seen anywhere except in thickest of the west side. It was terribly stripped years ago, but shows unusual recovery -- that is, in rootcases, the whole plant is now covered with new shoots from a few inches to a foot long. Many plants did not recover. Much sagebrush was also killed outright then. Sage is still stubly but in good condition.
Numbers of cattle are found out on nearly the points. Bob Parks says they are not permitted there & will be removed when the fence is completed.
The range shows considerable utilization.
