Mammoth to Heart Lake
Oct. 9, 1933
Day clear, sunny & cold, A few clouds.
No large game of any sort seen after leaving Mammoth, except one large black bear on the shores of Heart Lake. Bear tracks numerous.
No swans found at the lake though George Bagley says 3 cygnets were seen there in Sept.
It is thought that the swans have left for the winter. One beaver house seen at the southeast bay of the lake. This appears to be the only suitable swan nesting grounds in the lake - it is marshy whereas the rest is sandy or rocky beach. Mergansers, C. geese, Mallards and grebes seen on the lake.
Two porcupines seen together by the road in Hayden Valley.
