400. the carrying capacity of the range is determined by experience. Some few elk may be sought and killed in the saddle each year, although I see no necessity for doing this since elk are so readily seen along the roads mornings & evenings. A bull moose was browsing along the stream this morning as we looked over the area. His antlers were still in the velvet although apparently full size, and probably close to shedding. Small bands of antelope were seen west of Tower Falls station, around Trumpeter Lake and near the Buffalo ranch. This evening between 5:00 - 7:00 P.M. we drove to Old Faithful. A bob-tailed coyote ran across the road by Sylvan Lake. The swans were in the middle of the lake. A bear (black) was seen near Apollinario Spring, one bull elk at Norris, no elk in Gibbon Meadows but about 50-60 in Lower Geyser Basin. In this basin 2 families of Sandhill cranes, 3 each, were 200 yds.
