27 Yellowstone Park
Yellowstone Lake & Upper river.
Aug. 18 1933
Trip with Fred Foster, Madson
& Wright:
No pelicans were seen at the
Fishing Bridge nor anywhere in
crossing the lakes. Numerous
American Mergansers were seen
in little flocks at intervals along
shore-line in the southeast arm.
Taking an outboard motor we
drove up the Upper Yellowstone
river about 3 miles, from
4:00 to 6:00 P.M. Mergysers were
along the river by dozens. He
saw perhaps 50-60 in the
distance covered. A family of 4
immature Buffleheads encountered.
Three beavers and numerous
seagulls (California) seen, as
well as several muskrats,
a Swainson Hawk & a Marsh
Hawk. One bull moose
in perfect condition with antlers
in the velvet was found up
the river about 1/2 miles. Someone
had shot it about 4-5 days
previous.
The banks of the river
are frequently & abundantly lined
