Thompson 84 Grand Canyon Trip to Yavapai Canyon. Nov. 3, 1913. This area could serve as a game preserve for the park as well as a supply for hunting outside its boundary. Piton saw deer tracks at Base Camp. Birds seen on route: Piton Jays about 250. Woodhouse Jays about 10 Slender-billed Nuthatch 3 Juncoes very abundant Mexican Bluebirds very abundant Red-tailed Hawk 6 Ravens 3 Linnnet, 1 female Townsend Solitaire about 6 Crowned Knight 2 Marginally seen: Jack Rabbit, 1 (seems California) Chipmunks a few Interground Squirrel 1 (amphismophily?) Digger Squirrel 1 * Western Robin a few Two porcupine workings were seen at Base Camp.
